Arsenal missed out on Lisandro Martinez and that is fine, he decided to go and play with his former manager on a worse team in United for €57.37 million, which could rise to €67.37m through variables. From an Arsenal perspective, there is no reason we should have spent that much money on a CB who we it looks like we would have deployed at LB (even though he doesn’t play there for club or country, the only thing he has that resembles a LB is his preference of his left boot). We also missed out on Raphinha which I could give two shits about as he has publically and privately been twerking for Barca for months now, no need for Arsenal to cough up north of €60m for a guy who scored 11 league goals last year (Pépé got lambasted and called a bust for scoring 10 league goals the season before, makes you think). But no worry, looks like we got the LB we wanted, according to Fab, Arsenal and City have reached an agreement for Oleksandr Zinchecnko.

My theory on preseason matches results for any club means a maximum of 10% to a club’s outlook for that upcoming season. Literally can’t be worth more than that, anybody that thinks it means more than that is respectfully a complete moron. I don’t care if Arsenal strutted into a preseason friendly in Sydney, Australia and beat up on Man City in a 5-1 demolition because we all know damn well when the game matters in the Premier League they’d still cook us and dominate us in every way. But do I prefer it if Arsenal won their preseason matches, sure but by no means do I care or have a eeling that the result will mean anything in the future.

TO LOOK AT HOW THE MANAGER LINES UP AND SUBSTITUTES PLAYERS
The only thing that matters is how managers line up in these matches, especially the ones where a big club is playing another big club. The players don’t have to necessarily be starting together but look at who comes on at halftime, look a who the managers teams up together and that is what you cane expect to see when the season starts. ARSENAL IMPLICATIONS: Arsenal went on and beat a disappointing Everton 2-0 in Baltimore, Maryland yesterday. Everton just weirdly sat back in back 5 and looked steadfast on not getting broken up by Arsenal which probably stems from our 5-1 shellacking of them at the end of last season. But I don’t care about the result or the performance for that matter, what is more worrying is our lineup that started against Everton:

Do you notice any differences to the lineups that choked away Champions League? yeah, that’s right cause there isn’t any. Barring injuries to Tomiyasu, Tierney, Ramsdale, and Ben White, this is most likely our starting XI going into the upcoming season. Absolutely underwhelming to say the least as not much looks different than the squad that choked away the Champions League. Having Thomas Partey in our midfield changes everything but the players around him haven’t changed besides Gabi Jesus. Gabi Jesus has gotten off to a blistering start for us with 3 goals in two games which is cool to see but I’d be just as good if he didn’t record one brace in our first two games. In our positions that are in dire need of upgrades which is Xhaka, Martinelli, and backup RB (Tomiyasu is never healthy at this point), we have no links to transfers whatsoever in those spots which is worrying. Also add in the fact that we have sold pretty much no one for any value just adds to the mess that is Arsenal Football Club as Arsenal most likely are in the position of not being able to add players to the squad without getting rid of dead weight. What a fucking shit show with the season starting in less than a month. Get the toaster and bath ready fellas, we might be in for a long season.
UPDATE: He signed for Barcelona lmaoooo. At a club that also just signed 33-year-old Lewandowski, 6 months after they signed 33-year-old Aubameyang, resigned Ousmane Dembele, and couldn’t keep their club legend, Messi, due to financial reasons went on to sign Raphinha for over £55 million. You can’t help but laugh. How many promises can Xavi make for a forward line that going into next season that has Lewandowski, Aubameyang, Ansu Fati, Memphis, Ferran Torres, Ousmane Dembele, and now Raphinha?
Growing up in elementary school, we all had that school crush that we were madly in love with and we all probably had a moment when the person we had a crush on didn’t feel the same way. Absolutely shitty feeling. You know the only thing worse than that? Still going after the same girl or having feelings for her when she already said she didn’t feel the same way. Nothing short of pathetic at that point. This exact scenario is where Arsenal finds themselves in search of the soon-to-be former Leeds RW, Raphinha. Arsenal were at the middle of June, the leader in the race to sign the Brazilian but Chelsea and Barcelona stepped in and messed everything up.
PLAYER PROFILE : Raphinha, is no doubt an absolutely brilliant player, a prototypical left-footed RW who loves taking on defenders and maneuvering himself to get shots/passes with his left-foot. He’s the type of player who hate to play against as he is always looking to go at defenders, and not the fake always where some players will do feint and then pass the ball back if the defender doesn’t budge. Raphinha LOOKS for it and is successful a decent amount of times. There’s a smoothness with his dribbling and movement which kind of reminds me of Di Maria as they have similar body types and are comfortable left-footed dribblers. They do both pick up different positions as Di Maria is probably the more complete player however Raphinha, I’d say is the more direct player.
This directness I’d say is the main reason why clubs like Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in his services, considering the man played two seasons at Leeds with 25 goals to his name at the club, those are more than decent clubs to be linked to.
Raphinha has an absolute wand of a left foot as well. He loves to hug the touchline on the right flank, and then with a quick bit of acceleration, cut in his right foot and deliver crosses to his attachers:

The flair and directness of Raphinha in a team at Leeds that had Dan James as a starter make it so obvious why Raphinha stood out so well at Leeds. Like no fucking shit the man was going to look like Robben reincarnated, these men gave up goals like a NYC turnstile, and wondered why they were fighting relegation all season long.
SITUATION: In the spring of 2022, when Leeds was fighting off relegation, it was pretty well known that Raphinha would more than likely leave the club whether they survived or not (they survived). The former Champions League winner with Barcelona, Deco is his agent and was putting out rumors of Barcelona and Raphinha being linked for months now. If that wasn’t fishy enough, it is well known now that Raphinha prefers the move to Barcelona over any English club with Leeds asking for £60million and £65m for the right winger. Like only Raphinha posting an Instagram story pleading for Barcelona to sign him would make it more obvious.

Barcelona who are going through their own financial issues (you know, the one where they couldn’t keep Messi, the one where Pique had to take a pay cut, etc.), i.e they are in a shit ton of debt have been in and out of Raphinha depending on what day of the week it is. This waffling from Barcelona caused Arsenal to get in the mix for Raphinha who they have been tracking for some time now. At one point in early June, it seemed like we were the leaders to nab up the talented Brazilian as Barcelona were busy dealing with their own shit.
Then out of fucking nowhere, Chelsea stepped up again as the constant pain in my ass and decided they wanted to ruin my life. This meant they were willing to agree to Leeds demands for Raphinha which Arsenal could not, as well as provide Champions League football to a player that has not experienced that before.

Even though Chelsea thought they had something with Leeds, Raphinha still yearns to play at the Camp Nou, and at this point, it is almost a complete joke with his team for next season still in the air.
KENT’S CONCLUSION: At this point, I just don’t fucking care if Arsenal sign him. I always thought £60 million for a player who only scored 11 goals last year was a bit rich but in this market, it is essentially big teams overspending on players and hoping they work out (Lukaku, Nico Pépé, Sancho etc.). Would I love to have him? Of course I would. But does he take us to the next level? Maybe? Here are the reasons why I don’t care at all anymore about if he comes to Arsenal
We already have Saka: The man is clearly talented and would improve our team for sure, no questions about it. However, £60 million for a player that plays in Saka’s position isn’t the best use of funds. We also have a Nico Pépé sized transfer fee in the RW position that we still have on our books that we haven’t got rid of yet which makes it a little uncomfortable that we would go head first for another RW.
He clearly doesn’t want to be here: Which is totally fine. It’s clear that his preference is Barcelona, Chelsea , and then a long look down to Arsenal. Arsenal have been an utter joke for a good part of the last decade compared to Barcelona and Chelsea, why would any player choose Arsenal over the other two if they had any sort of ambition. Those clubs have had way more success as of late and are playing Champions League football next season, no reason for Raphinha to choose Arsenal for him if money is all relatively the same, absolutely none and it doesn’t hurt my feelings at all.
This situation is all for a Brazilian not named Neymar: Raphinha has every right to take his time on his next club, but for God’s sake, it’s like this guy is the second coming of Neymar. No way is this guy worth the hassle of stringing Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal along for £60 million. Neymar, yes he is worth the hassle for a talent like that. This guy, not even close. At this point, I wouldn’t even want the guy, he clearly rather play at Chelsea or Barcelona. Just take the L and move onto somebody else that hates his club situation enough to come play at Arsenal. 🙂
To Arsenal’s credit or discredit (moreso credit), Arsenal has a relatively limited history of signing American players. Unless something drastic changes in the next few years, I’d be completely fine with it. The amount of attention poured onto every touch that Pulisic makes, every game he doesn’t start, every goal he does/doesn’t score, etc. I’m cool with not having to deal with it for any American player. Obviously Pulisic is much greater talent with much greater pressure but you get the idea. Arsenal this past week, completed the signing of American goalkeeper Matt Turner from the New England Revolution with a base fee of around $7 million (£5.7 million). This deal came to an agreement in February with the official announcement this past week being more of a formality.
I first came onto Matt Turner when he was the best player for the USMNT in our Gold Cup title run this past year. At that point, you could make an argument that he should be the USMNT #1 GK going into 2022 because of how well he played. I then went on to watch absolutely none of his club games but if he is as good as he showed at the Gold Cup, it’s a very decent signing by Arsenal.
ARSENAL OUTLOOK FOR TURNER: After the relatively successful campaign Aaron Ramsdale just had, he looks like the nailed-on starter for Arsenal coming into this season with Matt Turner as the backup keeper. At 28 years of age, it doesn’t look likely nor does it make sense for Arsenal to loan out Matt Turner to another team. Also it doesn’t make sense for Matt Turner to make a move to England to then get loaned out in his athletic prime. Bernd Leno (who I still think is the best keeper at the club low-key) has somehow not been signed by another club which is also very confusing. I believe the expectation is for Leno to go to another team, we just don’t know where yet with Fulham leading the race it seems like.
The only person who seems to have been rewarded for Arsenal choking the Champions League is Matt Turner funny enough. If Arsenal made the Champions League, it is expected that Ramsdale would have gotten the Champions League group stage and Premier League games leaving the scraps for Matt Turner in the League Cup and FA Cup. With Arsenal playing in the Europa League, Matt Turner will most likely get the Thursday night games as well as the League Cup games which should give him a decent amount of reps going into the World Cup.
USMNT OUTLOOK: As stated earlier, it seemed nailed on for Matt Turner to be Gregg Berhalter’s #1 going into 2022 but injuries and random circumstances brought him back to the mix instead of the undisputed starting GK.
He had two decent runs as the starting GK in World Cup qualifying which should mean something for Gregg Berhalter going into World Cup roster selections. It does baffle me a bit why Matt Turner chose to make this move now going into a World Cup year where you are more than likely going to be the backup keeper. I understand the attractiveness of joining a club like Arsenal with a past like Matt Turner who inched and clawed his way to where he is now, it just is a risk that we will have to see if it pays off when it comes to Gregg making his decision on who is starting GK is. Zach Steffen who was in an identical position as Matt Turner at Man City is going on loan to Championship side Middlesbrough to be the starter to ensure he gets playing time at club level to keep his place as Gregg’s #1. Matt Turner now is undoubtedly my guy to represent the national team with Steffen struggling in the FA Cup semifinal and the Costa Rica qualifying match but moreso because he is at Arsenal. It’ll be interesting who makes more of an impact going into the World Cup but give me Matt Turner anyday (lifelong Matt Turner guy ya know).
CONCLUSION: I can’t even lie and say I watched one minute of Matt Turner in the MLS but by all accounts from everything I have seen for the national team, he seems to be more than good enough to at least be the backup at Arsenal. Would I be scared if Matt Turner ended up being the starter at Arsenal if Ramsdale went down? Kinda, but only because he is American and my need for him to not be a failure. Matt Turner does have history on his side as Brad Freidel, Kasey Keller, Tim Howard, and Brad Guzan all have made decent careers being American GKs in the Premier League and I at least think Matt Turner is good enough to join that group.

Despite my initial concerns with Gabriel Jesus actually coming to Arsenal as stated in the previous post below about Gabi Jesus in April 2022, I feel like the driving reasons how they were able to lure the star Brazilian striker was:
Higher wages/ London lifestyle – at the end of the day, I am sure the man is getting compensated way higher compared to what he was earning at Manchester.
The star man – This transfer fully establishes our attack being centered around Gabriel Jesus which would attract anybody if they are the focal point of a soccer team. With that establishment comes a massive amount of pressure and it is Arteta’s and Gabriel Jesus’ job to make sure that faith is fully paid back on the pitch.
Haaland’s arrival to City: I am sure Pep’s conversation with Gabi and his team sort of went like “Have you seen what this Erling Haaland guy looks like? Let’s make this easy on both parties and get this transfer to Arsenal sorted. We get £45m and you get to play at a joke club.” (So bascially City used us to get the better, younger player while our transfer fee substantially pays for that said better, younger player. Gotta respect it.)
On June 16th, while Arsenal twitter (myself included) was clamoring for Arsenal to sign Gabriel Jesus, Youri Tielemans, Raphinha, and Lisandro Martinez, literally anyone to revive the squad, these sneaky mofos in the middle of the night came to an agreement with Porto for the transfer of creative Portuguese midfielder Fábio Vieira to Arsenal for €40 million.

As crazy a fanbase as Arsenal Twitter is, it is unreal business from Arsenal to keep this deal under wraps and out of the public eye. Up until that point, I had watched 0 minutes of Fábio Vieira highlights or matches but I definitively had enough just from reading one tweet to come to the conclusion of him being the best Portuguese in the Premier League coming into next season lmao (includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva, Diogo Jota, João Cancelo etc.) Without a doubt. As highly touted as Fábio is coming from a Portugal, a player with his profile as a creative left-footed midfielder feels oddly similar to a player we already have in Martin Ødegaard, so what can we expect from him and how will Arteta use him?
After a disappointing end to last season, Arsenal has gone out and made the first signing to start the summer transfer window! Arsenal has agreed to sign 19-year-old Brazilian forward Marquinhos from Sao Paolo to a long-term contract. Have I heard of him before? No. Does he fill a particular need? Maybe? After watching a 10 minute Youtube compilation of him, am I ready to delcare his stardom in the Premier League? Hell fucking yeah. Where Arsenal are in our rebuild and with the Europa League next year, I believe it does make sense for us to invest in young talent across Europe and South America if available at the right price and it looks like this is where Marquinhos fills with a reported £3m transfer fee.

PLAYER PROFILE: Marquinhos profiles as a left-footed winger who seems to be most comfortable coming in off the right just like the two left-footed RWs we have in the squad now: Pépé and Saka. He is reported to be around 5’7″ which is much shorter than I prefer but he has a stocky and stout build that more than makes up for what he lacks in natural height.
Here you can see him comfortably fighting off defenders by using his body and footwork to escape their grasp. Everytime Marquinhos receives the ball with space to run at defenders, he seems to relish those opportunities to take them to the cleaners which is an attribute that was lacking massively for Arsenal last season. Martinelli and Saka took players on but it came rarely and only if they had momentum on their side to get past players. Marquinhos in the very little I have seen has the acceleration or let’s say desire to get past defenders at a stand-still position which is a skill I admire very much as shown below:
As is common with most successful left-footed RWs, is the ability to wrap their foot around the ball to score goals and the jury is still out there on that to his game. All in all, there is a flair that pops out from the screen when watching him play. He does seem to enjoy luring defenders in for a tackle and poking the ball with his left-boot around defenders. Whether he can get away with that in the Premier League and Europa League, we will see. I haven’t seen much of Marquinhos combining with teammates which is a requirement in a possession-laden Arteta side but I don’t see that being an issue with the technical ability he possesses. The natural fluidity he has allows him to be aware with not only the defenders he is going up against but also his teammates in the flicks and touches he makes to them which is something Ødegaard and Saka enjoyed doing at times.
SQUAD OUTLOOK WITH MARQUINHOS: I will come out and say this before the season starts if Arsenal fails like they always do, IT WILL NOT BE BECAUSE OF MARQUINHOS. Marquinhos is no doubt an investment that Arsenal was willing to take a chance on for the reported £3m fee. There is a very good chance that he even goes off on loan if Arteta does not see space for him in the squad. As someone who loves to loaning off Arsenal players that we could more than use (William Saliba) who knows if Arteta would make the right decision with Marquinhos. Marquinhos is so clearly an Edu signing which means there is going to be a lack of inherent loyalty that Arteta will have towards Marquinhos which will be interesting to see how it plays out. Unfortunately for Marquinhos, his best position at RW is filled with Saka who has that position locked up which means playing time in the league games will come at a premium for the young Brazilian. Pépé is still at the club which is another obstacle that Marquinhos would have to overcome if he can’t play through the middle or off the left flank. I have no expectations for Marquinhos, if he succeeds at the club, great, if not, then our investment in the player makes it to where we aren’t hindered by his lack of production (Nico Pépé). Marquinhos should get enough playing time with the Europa League group stage games as well as the cup games if Arteta lets him stay with the squad.
As another season goes by where I will not be watching my favorite team play Champions League football, countless people are to blame for this unacceptable failure. None more significant than the 3 headed monsters of idiocy between Mikel, Edu, and the players. They are just absolute choke artists. But besides the Arsenal clowns, we saw performances from our opponents all season that were very mean to my well-being. Here is the TOTY for players against Arsenal this season:
GK: Fraser Forster – If you combined 2014 Manuel Neuer (Ballon d’Or finalist that year), Tim Howard against Belgium in 2014, and Thibaut Courtois in the past Champions League final, you’d get Fraser Forster against Arsenal at St. Mary’s:
Fraser Forster made 6 saves in that match which is a result that will haunt me for years to come and is one of the bigger reasons we can point to in why we didn’t make the Champions League.

Just a frustrating day for everybody wanting an Arsenal win, Kent included. What people forget is that the man lost his job to Alex McCarthy before injuries led him to get the rare start against us. Always against us.
RB: Djed Spence – Technically a Middlesbrough player who was on loan to Nottingham Forest this year, was an absolute menace and Forest’s best player in their victory over us in the FA Cup. Even though he technically wasn’t in the Premier League this past season, his performance against us last season essentially will get him a move to the Premier League (looking like Spurs at this point smh) for this upcoming season. Charity club FC I tell you.
Just ran through our whole team in this passage of play and abused Martinelli all game long. Arsenal was supposedly in on him and rightfully so, a shame that Spurs are going to be getting this talented player. It would be a real shame if that didn’t happen.
CB: Virgil van Dijk – This guy is more worried about not letting players dribble past him but to his credit, we played Liverpool 4 times this season and we didn’t sniff a goal in any of them. 4-0, 0-0, 2-0, 2-0 with VVD playing in all those games. Just absolutely dominated by this man all season long.
CB: Pablo Mari – An Arsenal player that got loaned off to Udinese for the second half of the season, was absolutely terrible for Arsenal while covering for an injured Ben White. Might as well have been playing against us. He didn’t get a game for us since the debacle against Chelsea at the Emirates where Lukaku rag-dolled him all game long. LUKAKU, I TELL YOU. The flop of the season Lukaku who is going back to Inter because of how much he couldn’t cut it in the Premier League. Yeah, that guy was having his way with Pablo Mari, unfortunately for Rom, every other team he played in the Prem had much better players than Pablo Mari.
LB: Marc Cucurella – How a Barcelona academy product ended up at Brighton is beyond me but what a first season he had in the Prem. He absolutely ravaged us during both Brighton games this season down the left flank. The game down at Brighton, was a force down the left and showed his versatility by playing LCB at the Emirates match and was outstanding there as well. Contributing to their 2-1 victory over us. The man just never stops running and is a relentless menace up and down that left flank with his stupid hair flowing in the back. Not a surprise that Pep has made him a priority signing for City this summer transfer window.

CM: Rodri – My POTY this season. Not known for his goal-scoring prowess but leave it to Arsenal to let this CDM score 2 of his 7 goals against us. The game at the Etihad where City beat us 5-0, Rodri was just toying with us all game with having to basically do nothing defensively against us and had a joke of a goal with the inside of his boot, outside of the box:
If the goal against us at the Etihad wasn’t enough, in the game at the Emirates where we thoroughly outplayed City, leave it to Rodri to make a run forward to score the game-winner in extra time against us. Just an absolute fuck you to me and you, also confirming his ownership of me for the time being:

CM: Bruno Guimarães – In the January transfer window, it was well noted that Arsenal were keen on the Brazilian midfielder but was not able to attain his services ahead of the Saudi-backed Newcastle regime. It was reported that we didn’t have the financial backing to win the player and his team over, especially in a bear winter market where teams chose not to spend heavily for numerous reasons. With all that being said, it took awhile for Eddie Howe to acclimate t Bruno and he got conveniently very hot when we played him at the end of the season. Just as a fuck you to Edu for not getting the deal over the line, Bruno took away our Champions League hopes by scoring 1 of his 5 goals on the season against us:
CM: Christian Nørgaard – I didn’t know who he was before this season either but leave it to Arsenal to let this guy score twice against us this season which accounted for 67% of his goals in the league this season.
The one that took place at the beginning of the season was particularly painful as it gave me a glimpse of the shit-show that would be the 21/22 season.
FW – Diogo Jota: Scored twice against us this season, home and away. And to add injury to insult, added another two goals in our Carabao Cup SF at the Emirates. Despite him losing his job to Luis Diaz towards the end of the season, he was a menace to us all season and have no interest in seeing him anytime soon.
FW: Cristiano Ronaldo: He owned me when he left Manchester United and he still owns me now. I haven’t gotten over Cristiano knocking us out of the Champions League SFs in 2009:
And 13 years later he still fucking can’t stop scoring against us. When Ole was on his final legs as Manchester United manager and they couldn’t get a result to save their lives in December 2021, leave it to Arsenal to be Ole’s last saving grace as manager eeking out a 3-2 win over us at Old Trafford with the customary Ronaldo two-goal performance smh.
And when United’s season was over in April 2022 when we played them at the Emirates, he was by far United’s best player despite the tragedy of his deceased child and still managed to get a goal against us cause why the fuck not:
