ARSENAL HAS US DREAMING (Arsenal-United reaction)

What a match, what a performance, when everyone kept asking questions about when this Arsenal team would slip up, they do it again. This time, with a 3-2 victory over an in-form United team at the Emirates, bring some revenge from the defeat they handed us at OT in September. This match had everything, lead switches, world class goals, shit goals, last minute goals, it 100% felt like an old-school United/Arsenal match that we haven’t been able to see in years when both teams were dominating the league. I’ll go into the details from this match, but Eddie’s last minute tap in to give us the victory kept us 5 points clear of City with a game in hand and served as a platform to improve upon during this busy February-March stretch when the Europa League games come in.

THOUGHTS ON THE MATCH:

  1. Not the best match from the starting XI but they showed heart when it mattered most: The hallmark of this Arsenal team all season was the blistering and relentless pace we set from the start, especially at home and it seemed that way for the first 5 minutes but United were able to weather the storm much better than other teams. Thomas, Ben White and Martinelli all in my opinion were not at their best. Both CBs did fine given the enormity of the match, Ødegaard and Saka played well, Eddie was incredible and Zinchenko just continues to impress me. We won’t always be at our best, but all that matters is that we get the 3 points when it does happen and that’s what happened today. This Arsenal team though, they are built different. They took the lead through a Rashford goal and hit us back to 2-2 with a shit clusterfuck of a goal and every single time, we responded just like we have for the most of this season, which is why we are where we are.
  2. Our best players didn’t show up today but the rest of the squad was able to pick up the slack: Thomas Partey, the one who I have relied upon all season and in my opinion, our most important player, came up a bit short this game, gave the ball cheaply a few times, and Rashford did him in to take the lead at 1-0. Ben White’s touch was off from the start, which is quite unfair from the high standard he set for himself this season which is part of the reason Tomiyasu replaced him at halftime. Martinelli’s limitations have become quite clear more and more as this team excels. I think its quite clear he is the weak link in our starting XI now and why we went so hard for Mudryk this window. Not entirely his fault, just think he has become too one-dimensional. Ramsdale with a complete howler for their second goal. BUT for all those mistakes and dud performances, Saka, Eddie, Zinchenko, Ø, Trossard all stepped up for the lads which cements our position in the league table and why this Arsenal is so different from past teams.
  3. I have no words for Saka anymore: There have been many players that have improved and caught the league’s eyes this season such as Ø and Martinelli but the one constant, one shining light from the past shit seasons, has been Bukayo Saka, Arsenal’s own Bukayo Saka. Just an insanely world-class goal when we needed it most. This boy keeps impressing me week in and week out. Our starboy.

We lost a game and I am not having a mental breakdown…..yet (Arsenal-United Reaction)

We lost to United 3-1 at Old Trafford and I am in the mud. We came to Old Trafford, played our brand of football, dominated most of the game, and still lost. It very much so felt like a classic Arsene Wenger – Sir Alex Ferguson or Pep Guardiola – OGS game where Arsenal/City play the better quality of football, dominate most of the possession and due to pieces of naivety and collapses in concentration, they lose the match to the more clinical/ruthless United side. This isn’t a Kent mental breakdown like our game against Spurs and Newcastle last year where we were utterly useless and toothless, but more so disappointed with the result and content with the performance. We MUST get 3 points against Everton, I will have a mental breakdown for sure if we get anything less than 3 points.

THOUGHTS ON THE GAME:

  1. Disappointed with the result, content with the performance: I mentioned it earlier but the Arsenal performance was more than fine, especially for a young team going into Old Trafford as league leaders. For large parts of the game, we were the much better team, we had better spells of play, had nice passages of one-touch football, pressed well whenever we lost etc. After the first 10 minutes, I would say form minute 10-60, we played them off the pitch, even when going a goal down. *Insert dumb United fan telling me to look at the scoreboard. But at the end of the day, all that matters is who puts the ball in the back of the net and that is what United did and we didn’t. They caught us on the break, and we had lapses in judgement which cost us as all 3 of their goals were basically tap-ins. United were ruthless and clinical, credit to them, but the 3-2 scoreline might be a bit harsh with the type of football Arsenal produced. Somtimes you play well and you lose, that happens in sport and that is what happened today. If Arsenal played this United team 10 times, I’d say we beat them 6-7 times, this was one of those days where United were the better team and that is okay. I’m proud of how the team played, but we need to shore up some lapses in judgement defensively if we want to take that next step, the football is there, we just need those final touches offensively and defensively to take that next step.
  2. VAR continues to own me: In the 13th minute, Ødegaard clips the back of Eriksen’s foot which causes him to lose the ball to Saka who controls the ball and plays in a delicious pass to Martinelli for the left-footed finish. Now in clear time to me and many others, its a clear foul that Ødegaard puts on Eriksen, no question about it. However Tierney for whatever reason, mostly him being an incompetent fool, doesn’t call it which allows us to counter and get a goal. VAR however intervenes, calls back the goal due to a foul and 0-0 is restored. That is such a sick joke and is not how VAR should be utilized. When VAR calls down to Paul Tierney to look at that foul, it already puts it in his head that Paul made a mistake. And 9/10, referees are going to overturn their decision if VAR tells them to look at it again. VAR should be there to give the referee another perspective on his original decision, not to completely change it. Only if it is a clear and obvious foul/occurrence should things be reversed, since Tierney made that decision to not call the foul, there wasn’t enough in it for me to overturn the original call. There needs to be a complete overhaul on how VAR is utilized for decisions that do not pertain to offside. Also, Yes I am 100% salty and biased.
  3. Lapses in judgment killed us: Gabriel has got to make that tackle or foul and stop the play, no way should he have left Arsenal exposed like that for the first goal. On the 2nd United goal, we should have played it out defensively more, not been so keen on getting the 2nd goal and gave United an opportunity to hit us on the counter. The 3rd United goal, we had 20 minutes left to get a tying goal, no way should we have been so high to get that 2nd goal as well. Just a bit naive on how we approached the game in important moments left us exposed.
  4. United were ruthless: They had 3 chances to hit us on the counter and scored all 3 times. Credit to them, and they won the match. Whether it is a credit to ETH or Arteta’s naiveness, we will see as the season plays out.
  5. Everton is all that matters: Us losing a match at Old Trafford isn’t a problem, it is just how we respond at home to Everton this weekend. 3 points is a must and the only thing that is acceptable next weekend.
  6. I miss Thomas Partey: and we need to get his injury recorded sorted out, ridiculous how often this man gets injured. No way should he be getting hurt during training. Figure it out Mikel and Edu. He should have been playing this match.
  7. Fábio Vieira time to show out on Thursday: Vieira had a slight cameo against United for 20 minutes but I am excited to see how he fares this Thursday in the Europa League. Might be a decent reinforcement in the middle of the park with Thomas and Elneny out.
  8. Please win this Sunday against Everton for my livelohood

We may never lose again

Only at this club can we lose 3 straight to Palace, Brighton, Southampton, and beat Chelsea and United like nothing happened. The performance wasn’t perfect, United was better for large stretches but I also just don’t give a fuck. Arsenal (3) – United (1) and I’m taking the 3 points and running off to enjoy my weekend. At this point of the season, it is only about the results and nothing else. The performances would be nice to have but at the end of the day, they mean fuck all if the results don’t follow. The 3 points for Arsenal have most likely put United out of the top 4 for good and keeps us on pace with the scum (Spurs).

PREMATCH/FIRST HALF: Mikel went with with pretty much the same XI that started against Chelsea with the lone change coming from Cédric coming in for Holding which pushed Ben White back next to Gabriel. The 7:30 am games are usually the ones where Arsenal loves to fuck me but instead, we came out and drew first blood thanks to the masterclass defending of Varane and Telles:

Arsenal’s April Outlook

Who would have thought as March comes to a close, that I would have to worry about Arsenal having a chance to compete for a Top 4 spot? For the past few years, I have been stuck hoping Arsenal win Europa League knockout rounds against Eastern European farmers such as Slavia Prague to make our season worthwhile. Usually at this point of the season, we are out of the running for Top 4 and I am just causing pain to myself by watching meaningless April games for absolutely no fucking reason. With the international break taking place coming to a close, our Top 4 hopes more than likely will rely on how we perform in these April fixtures outlined below:

I’ll go into what we can expect going into each match and the context that will be taking place around us and our opponents.

CRYSTAL PALACE: As long as Crystal Palace have Patrick Vieira as their manager, they will always be my 2nd favorite team. This game will be hard for me to watch as I’ve enjoyed watching Palace play this season but this is a must-win game for the Gunners. The game will be at Selhurst Park which has given us trouble in the past. Fortunately for us, their two wingers Wilfried Zaha and the talented Michael Olise both picked up knocks over the International break so Patty V needs to chill and let his stars recover after Monday. Even if we get lucky and Zaha and Olise are out, Palace still have an in-form Conor Gallagher who is in my current PL TOTY with how well he has played. Back when we played them in October, it was a back and forth 2-2 draw with Mikel playing Ødegaard in a deep playmaking role next to Thomas. Both teams have changed drastically so no point in delving too much into that game but as long as we somehow get revenge on James McCarthur if he touches the field, I’ll be happy. Such a fuckm that guy. PREDICTION Arsenal 1 – Crystal Palance 0, ESR to get our goal off the bench.

What an idiot he is and to make it more ridiculous, just got a yellow for a blatant kick to Saka’s legs.
